270 WSM / 95gr mono bullets

Has anyone else been shooting lightweight mono bullet loads from their magnum rifles? Just for kicks I loaded some up and chrono graphed them. I settled at 3,400 FPS as primers were getting pretty flat and I didn't want to push it. My load was 64.5 gr. of IMR 4350. Please work up to this load.

I’m pushing 3400 fps now. I played around with 85gr Barnes in my 270 WSM but backed off when I saw signs of too much pressure. Speed can be fun but I’m not getting any younger and I don’t want bolt face erosion or case head separations. Gotta be careful at those extremes.

Yeah that’s serious speed, good call stopping where the pressure signs started showing up

Those mono loads really move. My .270 WSM liked Barnes TTSX bullets but I eased off once primers started flattening. You know, magnums can hide pressure up until the moment they don’t.

Those fast, lightweight mono loads are fun until you suddenly start seeing pressure signs show up way sooner than you expected. My .300 WSM really taught me a lesson there with magnums, things can go from totally safe to pretty sketchy with surprisingly small adjustments, especially when you start chasing every last bit of velocity.
