Gun selection for deer hunting is what families argue at dinner tables. Every region has a different answer and everyone is 100% convinced theirs is correct. :)

Here in Lapeer county, Iwent from a Browning Gold dedicated 12ga. Slug gun, which was awesome, to a CVA Scout stainless 450 Bushmaster, Both are really good guns, but the Bushmaster easily outruns the 12 gauge Slug.

I quit deer hunting with a dedicated 12ga slug gun (Remington 11-87 with rifled cantilever barrel and Leupold VXII 2x-8x) years ago after I bought my first in-line muzzle loader (Knight DISC 50 cal.) Sold that after a few years, and a dozen deer later, and got a TC Encore Pro Hunter. Been using that ever since in Lower Michigan shotgun zone. One Shot One Kill every time. I have no desire to get anything else (like a 350 Legend - 450 Bushmaster, etc.) IF I head north (and that's seldom these days), I take my Weatherby Mark V Accumark chambered in the trusty, tried and true 30-06 Springfield. (y) 😉

Deer rifle debates are basically family tradition right up there with politics and who burned the venison chili. 😄

That’s the beauty of it when a setup keeps filling tags, there’s really no reason to chase the latest caliber trend..

My "go to gun" was proofed in 1935 and it came to live with me in 1983,

Since then, I've put more than 50 big game animals in my freezer with it, from moose and bear on down, but these days it's my main deer rifle, and I shoot one or two deer with it every year.

Please provide the particulars on that Shtgn/Rifle combo! It looks very interesting.

Here's the first big game I shot with it,

I use it pretty much for all of my hunting,

It's pretty handy when I travel too,

I'll be hunting with it until I take my eternal dirt nap.
