hey y'all, just got my first 10/22 and i'm hooked! it shoots like a dream straight outta the box, but man, the customization options are endless. i'm excited to make it mine, but trying to pace myself. what small mods or upgrades have you guys done that really made a difference? looking for the best bang for my buck here. any advice on what to tackle first? thanks!

Down the rabbit hole you go! Be careful what you wish for because it can quickly turn into an addiction!

I've done a few 10-22 builds over the years using all different manufactures parts. Waaaay back in the day Volquartsen seemed to be the only 10-22 high-end aftermarket parts manufacturer around. Now-a-days there's a plethora of companies making 10-22 parts and barrels. Some are better than others so do your research. My latest build was with all KIDD parts and a KRG Bravo stock/chassis. I didn't want a full-blown 'precision' style bench gun, so I went this route. I don't think I'll be humping through the woods to hunt squirrels with it but for dispatching unwanted pests in and around my property and/or just having fun target shooting it's just fine.

Caution: it's easy to get sucked down those rabbit holes, modding a new gun, ...rifle, pistol, doesn't seem to matter.
I've only done a couple of mods to my 10-22, though I've had it for a long time..since the 80's ?
One mod I really like is..an extended mag release. It's not terribly long, & been on mine so long I've no idea what brand mine is.. it just allows much easier mag changes, regardless of mag size. I like a scope, so mine wears one. Tried a few stocks, a SS /polymer folding one.. now called a Butler Creek stock, but was sold under another brand when I bought mine.
Searched & found a link to it under the B.C, branding:
https://www.midwestgunworks.com/butler-creek/stocks.html?srsltid=AfmBOookTXhL3nQ9zO2B_n9T1IksiTtP2g4zaDBrpodyognO7U8JK9well, says "discontinued..probably sold by another brand name..it is the one pictured & is a nice "folder", if that's on your wish list.

Should mention, there are companies that you can send you trigger in to get it "improved" . This is one area of improvement, I feel is worth the cost, as it increases ones ability to shoot more accurately . Strange, that even Ruger makes an improved, drop-in trigger for the 10-22. Not sure of cost, some trigger improvements can be costly,so let your budget be your guide.

If you don't feel like dropping $200 to $350 for an entirely new trigger, you can buy trigger kits for around 50 bucks from VQ. KIDD, TK, etc. that will really improve the factory trigger.

As mentioned, the Ruger BK trigger group is a good choice for under $75.00, But still not as good as a KIDD. In fact. KIDD makes THE BEST 10-22 trigger on the planet (as well as bolts. barrels, receivers, etc.). Single Stage or 2 Stage. Well worth the money for anyone serious about squeezing every bit of accuracy out of their 10-22.

If I had all the money back that I spent using other parts (GM barrels, Fedderson barrels, VQ Barrels, VQ TG2000 trigger, Timney trigger, BK Trigger, BC stocks, Houge stocks, Core-lite stocks, Victor stocks, and God knows what all else, I could have built a half dozen KIDD 10-22 rifles!

Once you build a rifle with decent quality parts, then comes the search for ammo that your particular rifle likes best.

Good luck and just have fun doing it!

Don't recall the name of the company that did the work, but after a friend wanted to improve the trigger on his 10-22, I searched & found a company that did his trigger, for around $50.00 . I later read that they stopped providing that service.. liability issues ? Anyway, my friend was very pleased by the work..unfortunately this was about10 (or more) yrs.ago.

Probably 'Randy at CPC'. He did awesome work on all aspects of 10-22's. But yeah, he closed up shop just a few months ago when he lost the lease on his building.
