When I’m not clocking in at work or avoiding potholes, I’m often looking for a solid outdoor range that’s okay with some rapid fire. I can’t wait to check out what everyone’s building and hopefully get some advice on a new optic for my latest project. It’s great to be here!

Welcome to the forum.

Hey, maybe the new 2026 gas 'tax' will help "...fix the damn roads." But I digress.....

I'm fortunate enough to live on a few acres in a rural area of Washtenaw County where I have a range set up behind my house. I can shoot 100+ yards and if there's inclement weather I can shoot from inside my barn.

Welcome. Maneater, I don't know of any public outdoor ranges. There is a private range in the Howell area but as I recall the rules they don't allow rapid fire. I keep meaning to join, just haven't gotten around to sending in my paperwork.

I wish that I had that set up Eric! Living in a condo subdivision though that isn't possible. I'm not far from you, right next door in Livingston County.

welcome to the site. I think all the public ranges will have a rule against rapid fire. My club (OCSC ) has a 3 second rule, which some chose to ignore. Not a RSO present @ all times, but if noticed firing rapidly by some, you'll be cautioned. Might have privileges suspended. The action pistol ranges are allowed rapid fire while holding events, even practices..not sure as I'm not active with that group.

Check out the Island lake shooting range off I-96 east of US23. Not sure what their ranges are like or the rules but I see the sign from 96 when driving thru the area.

I haven't stopped there but have wondered what it is like as well. May have to check it out when it gets warm.

It's actually on the south side of Grand River maybe a mile or so West of Kent Lake Rd. I've been there a few times. It's only about a 15 min drive from my house. It's not a bad facility. Nice, clean building where you sign in. They also sell targets, cleaning supplies, shooting accessories etc. All of the shooting is done outdoors. Decent benches/shooting stalls (maybe 30 or so)/backstops/target hangers, 50 & 100 yard ranges and Skeet/Trap & handgun ranges, too. The RSO's are pretty strict regarding safety (as they should be). It's been a couple of years since I've been there so I'm not aware of/if any changes/updates have been made. It's well worth a try if you're looking for an outdoor range.
