Looking at replacing my add-on wood furnace with a wood-coal furnace, looking for suggestions, so far I'm looking at the Amish made Kozy King from D S, just doing my research and would welcome any input

I have. I have a Shelter Wood/Coal add on furnace. It uses either. I have tried it in the past and find it works fine. Provides more heat but I really don't need anymore heat than I currently have using wood. It's more expensive in my case than wood. I burn 36" logs that are around 12-14" in diameter. I might use coal if the temps get below zero for long periods over night where I can run a half a bag per night to keep the heat longer.

I've been heating with wood for about 28 years, my wood add on furnace need to be replaced, been taking a hard look a the Kozy King fron D S Stove, Amish built in PA. Burns either wood or Anthracite coal at 85% efficiency, looks pretty good

If you want a simple but tough option, go for the Kozy King. But if you’re after a bit more refinement in coal burning, the Hitzer is definitely worth considering. You're good either way though. Just make sure that whatever you choose has good draft control and isn’t a pain to clean out during the season.

Me too but my (add on)wood furnace will burn coal also. My inside wood stove similar to yours only burns wood and runs early fall till December and early spring till around memorial day. Keeps me from feeding the pig payment.

I've looked at the hitzer as well. Although it's a great unit, I believe the Kozy king would be a better fit for me.
