It's that time of year again. I have a 500 acre lease in Ogemaw county and probably 100 acres is AG the farmer plants to competition is pretty stiff. I have a few micro plots (1/4-3/4 acres) on the property. Even one thats around 50ft in diameter in the middle of a pine tree plantation. Disked up all the ground last week and plan on planting them this Wednesday coming up. These are more for holding deer on the property than for hunting although I hunt them at times. It's become an annual ritual and hanging cams on the plots watching the growth and visitors is the best part. Beat time of year is just ahead of us.

That's beautiful! Nice work.

I'm surrounded by cornfields, beanfields, hayfields, oak trees, and a couple of ponds. I really don't need to plant any food plots. The local farmers do that for me. ;)

My backyard....

The bonus of living in AG country or SLP. Great deer country and pretty good ground hog country too. Had a few farms in Jackson and Washtenaw counties that I regularly shot ground hogs on when I lived down there. The deer numbers have quadrupled by comparison to when I lived down that way as well. Certainly a world apart from northern woodlands. Quality of the deer is the biggest difference.
