Hey everyone! I'm on the hunt for a reliable local gunsmith. If you've had any gunsmithing done recently, please share their name and what type of work they did for you! I'm interested in everything from repairs to custom builds.

might help if you gave your location.., my gun guru is Doug Jones., he's in Rochester Hills.

Doesn't really advertise, known for the Acc-u-rail process for 1911's, here's a quote from someone about his work:
"I have a COLT GCNM that has Doug's AccuRails. I had another Colt that had them. Both of these guns shoot like lasers and are butter smooth.
The entire gun needs to go out for fitting. The frame as well as the slide need to cut for the AcuraRail"

a link to post sabout his work : https://www.migunowners.org/forum/showthread.php?315522-Doug-Jones

Doug's done pistol & rifle trigger work for me , installed sights, fit barrels, done more stuff than I can remember, for my friends as well.
All kinds of repairs & also builds custom 1911's for competition. Even fixed a friend's shotgun. Always modifying someone's "race guns"
As I live close by his shop, I stop in about monthly to say hello & see what he's doing.. Often it's an old, odd firearm some one wants fixed.
I've seen some real unusual firearms there, watched him fabricate parts to get them to work. I've taken pics of a few of them I found interesting.

Hard to find anyone better, IMO

X3 for Ralph's. Always has something new and seems able to fix nearly anything, but he will tell you if he can't or won't do it. No bs from him.

one thing I like about Doug is his integrity. I've talked to him about something I was thinking about having done to a firearm, & he's talked me out of it..saying it's not worth the expense. He still would've done what I wanted, if I said I wanted it done, but he knows me. Some years ago, I had him checker the front strap of a 1911 I like.. A ss S/A loaded Target, in 9mm . When he told me the price, I hesitated..he then offered to machine the top of the slide ( flat) for the same price. I had the work done, & really like the way it came out.
