Still learning the ropes with revolvers and when I looked at the shop’s offerings, it felt like everything was either .22 LR or .38 Special. I thought there must be something in between but maybe I just don’t know what to seek out.

Check out a few different LGS. Where are you located? Learn proper trigger control on a double-action revolver and everything else is a piece of cake.

Lots of shops carry what's popular, so you see .22 and .38 a lot. There are awesome choices, like the .327 Federal, if you feel like trying something different.
