I'm looking to upgrade the iron sights on my pistol since they just aren't cutting it for what I need. Id want to avoid over-customizing my firearms, but I really need a better sight setup this time.

What I'm after is something easy to install and I'd love a system that's versatile enough for a few different uses. I'm talking about everything from taking care of varmints to using it as a sidearm during small game hunts, plus just some good old target practice out to about 25yds.

I'm totally open to ideas, whether it's better iron sights or even some red dot optics. What do you think I should check out?

With the way you're planning to use it, I'd definitely recommend going for a fiber optic front sight with a blacked-out rear. It gives you that classic look while still being functional. But if you're looking to speed things up a bit and get better visibility in low light, a compact red dot could be your best bet.

I tried shooting with a red dot on a 1911, owned by a friend. While they're great for those who get used to them, I discovered there has to be a learning curve to get to that point..at least for me. I agree a fiber optic front sight is a big improvement over std. front sights. I bought an aimpoint (?) red dot for an AR I had years ago & found the dot covered up too much of my target, for precise target shooting. Now, red dots come in various sizes ( dot size) so you have to chose the size dot that will
work best for your intended use. I can add that after talking with my gunsmith about brands, the Holosun brand seem to be well-liked by those that buy them.
