I was at the range the other day, talking with a new shooter. This guy was enthusiastic and driven, but he was also overwhelmed with “advice” from every uncle and neighbor. It reminded me of the useful bits I got when I was starting out… and some of the junk I wish I could un-hear.

So I'm curious....

What’s the best and the worst shooting advice you’ve ever gotten? And if you could offer some wisdom to a new shooter, what would you share? Let’s get some insights from the experts!

The best tip I ever received was “Take your time and let the sights settle, speed will come later.” When I was just starting out, I rushed every shot, thinking that being faster would yield better results. But once I focused on being patient and consistent, I noticed my groups tightened up right away.

Best advice: Trigger control, Trigger control Trigger control!!

Everything else can be perfect - Sight alignment - Sight picture - Grip - Stance. But of you yank the trigger everything else goes right down the crapper. 'Press' the trigger. Master trigger control and everything else will work itself out.

worst advice was.."squeeze the trigger".. how can you squeeze a trigger ?

Best I'vee given is..relax when you shoot.
Try watching some youtube videos on shooting tips, Then try different things & see what works best for you.

Take your time at first, develop good habits

Breathing control. Learning the trigger release, follow through ( keeping head down) and calling your shot. Keep the exact target at the bench and mark your shot at bench target before verifying hit on target. Best upgrade on any rifle is a good trigger job. 3.5# for new shooter and less as they get more experience.
