Carbine gas a smart choice for a 16" barrel?

With all the components we have today, is there still a real benefit to using carbine gas on a 16" rifle?

These days mid-length just feels smoother...carbine works but it’s kind of the old default

On a 16-inch rifle, a mid-length gas system feels smoother to me. And yeah carbine gas still works, especially with weak ammo but you get more gas than you need most of the time. With better buffers these days, there's not much reason to stick with carbine
