I've had my fair share of awkward moments with game wardens, but there’s one incident that still cracks me up. It was a lovely spring morning, and I was all geared up for a turkey hunt. In my excitement to hit the woods, I totally forgot my license sitting on the kitchen counter. Naturally, that was the exact day a warden decided to pay me a visit.
When he asked for my license, I froze like a deer caught in headlights. I started explaining the whole situation, bracing myself for a ticket. But to my surprise, he just laughed and said, "Well, you look every bit the hunter, you've got one bird down, and you're not acting suspicious, just try not to let it happen again." He gave me a verbal warning and even complimented my decoy setup before moving along.
Since then, I’ve made it a point to keep a laminated copy of my license tucked in my vest. Definitely learned my lesson!
