Hey everyone! I thought it’d be helpful to get a thread going about our favorite (and least favorite) gun shops around Michigan. What makes a gun shop trustworthy to you? I’ve had some great experiences with shops that really take the time to answer questions, and others where I felt like they were just trying to make a sale. Have you found a local gem or had a nightmare experience?

Let’s talk about what shops you trust for new or used guns, reasonable prices, and fair transfer fees. And if you’ve got a shop you’d recommend, definitely share where it is and what you liked about it! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I've had better luck finding what I want online and having it shipped to a "favorite" FFL, that dealing with any local stores. They just don't have what I'm looking for most of the time. And while I'd rather handle one before buying, I can usually find a friend that has one already, and check it out.

I'm not sure where you live, but I've found Gary's Guns in Muskegon to be one of my favorites. I've dealt with him since his shop was in a room of his home. Honest man to deal with.

Schupbach's Sporting Goods - 141 W. Pearl St. Jackson, Mi.

Family owned - Large selection of firearms of all types - Lots of accessories - Excellent Gunsmith - Archery Department as well

Ok. I'm confused. I thought he said there was one in Mid-Michigan near Birch Run, but he must meant that's his location. Sigh. It gets harder every day.
No Schupbach's is a family owned (Jackson ONLY) location. Been years since I been there. Brian owned it when I lived down that way I believe. They aren't a gun only shop. Their more of a hunting sporting goods shop. Dick Williams in the Birch Run area is a guns (Only) shop.

ELD is correct - Schupbach's is a family-owned business, has been since they started as an auto parts store years ago in Jackson. Bryan started the archery section and Kevin runs the guns side. Lots of products and great inventory of firearms and archery gear. I'm good friends with Bryan and I worked in the archery department for a while after I retired. If you're ever out that way stop in. You'd be impressed.

Schupbach's handled a transfer for me last spring. Impressive shop and fine, friendly and helpful people.

Trust them all like you trust a carnie.

saw the above mentioned shop & thought it might be the same as Williams Gun Sight ( & Outfitter).. it's not.
Williams Gun Sight & Outfitter is @ 7389 Lapeer Rd, Davison, MI 48423
A huge place with lots of inventory. I used to visit there & Guns Galore in Fenton, fairly often,
but it's been years since I've visited either place.
Why ?
Not looking for any firearms to purchase, as I now have more than enough already.

I've been to GG in Fenton 3 times. After the 2nd time I swore I'd never go back there again. I did go back a 3rd time and haven't been back there in over 25 years and never will again. I have my reasons....

Well, Eric..you're not alone.many that have visited the place report that they had a bad experience, mostly rude service, or being ignored when wanting to talk with a counter person. I've been there many times in the past, bought stuff there, never had a bad experience. Staff were helpful to me. I know others haven't had the same experience, but before shopping online was an option ( & using MGO .org site ) for firearm purchases, G.G. had good prices & selection for whatever I was looking for, even used to buy reloading components there.

You are 100% correct. Plenty of selections in firearms and accessories, etc. In fact, the first time I went there was because they were the only place around that had what I was looking for.... a Browning A-Bolt in 7mm with the BOSS system. The 'help' there were bunch of egotistical jerks to phrase it nicely. I can't remember what I went there the second time for, but I experienced the same thing. There hasn't been and won't be a third time even if they're the only place around that have what I'm looking for.
